In this painting, the 18 m Glenfinnan monument, Lochaber, at the head of the loch, was erected to commemorate the historic event of the 1745 Jacobite Rising when Prince Charles Edward Stuart "Bonnie Prince Charlie", raised his standard on the shores of Loch Shiel. The view is from the nearby viaduct at Glenfinnan which was built entirely out of concrete and has come to prominence particularly with ‘The Hogwarts Express’ steam train, which is the tourist train known as the ‘Jacobite Steam Train’ which was filmed crossing the viaduct in several parts of the films beginning with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 2002.
