Cenarth is a fascinating village on the border of Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. It stands on the banks of the River Teifi near Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn, and features the Cenarth Falls with its 18th-century corn mill, and is home of National Coracle Centre. The Teifi river is the heart of the village, famous for its falls and the salmon leap when the river is in full flood. Cenarth Bridge which was built in 1787 with a series of circular holes to increase strength, is a dominant feature here, and, curiously, it is partly in Carmarthenshire and in Ceredigion.

Welsh coracles are flat-bottomed boat without a keel. They have been used throughout Britain since the Bronze Age and were traditionally made by weaving a basketwork frame of willow, covered with cow hides that are tied together with rope made from animal hair. Recently they have been made with calico waterproofed with pitch. They are light enough so that fishermen could carry their coracle upstream for as much as 10 miles then float downstream while fishing.
