This is an oil painting of Cwm-yr-Eglwys, a hamlet with a small beach in
a picturesque sheltered cove on the eastern side of the Dinas Island peninsula
in the community of Dinas Cross between Fishguard and Newport, Pembrokeshire,
in southwest Wales. There is access from Pwllgwaelod beach along the
Pembrokeshire Coast Path around Dinas Head . Then return to Pwllgwaelod can be
made via a direct path through the wooded valley that almost divides Dinas Head
from the mainland. The church of St. Brynach suffered storm damage in 1850 and
1851 when the church footing was left hanging over a void. The great storm of
October 1859 removed the church roof and damaged the walls. The ruins of the
church are now a popular tourist attraction and a pleasant public space with
amazing views.
