Fine Art Painting & Drawings of the beauty of the British Isles

This dramatic view of the wreck of the Helvetia buried in the sands of Rhossili beach is presented as a limited edition reproduction of a watercolour painting by Vladislas.

This life-like representation of the remains of this Norwegian barque is one of the most photogenic icons of the Gower.

On the evening of the 31st October 1887 the Helvetia arrived at Rhossili on its journey from Campbelton (New Brunswick, Canada) to Swansea. Due to the adverse weather in the Bristol Channel, the sea proved too rough to continue to Swansea so the Helvetia was forced to moor up and await for a pilot. The wind strengthened and reached gale force levels. A few hours later, ripping the anchor free, the Helvetia was pushed into the sands of Rhossili beach; the order was given to abandon ship and the crew was able to reach safety into the relative shelter of Rhossili Bay. As the years passed the remains of the Helvetia took a battering by the successive winter storms. In the not too distant future this painting and the like may well be all the portraits we have left to remember of this most famous of wrecks.

This is a limited edition reproduction produced to the highest print quality and comes mounted, with a certificate of authenticity and inclusive of FREE recorded delivery in the UK.
