This reproduction of the parade of welsh cobs at Barley Saturday is presented by Vlad-Art from an original painting (20” x 16”) created in oil by Welsh based artist Vladislas. This depiction of this traditional and unique event is a typical sight of Cardigan on the annual Barley Saturday that has been held since the 19th Century, on the last Saturday in April. This was originally organised for local farmers to have the chance to come to town and do business, hire new staff and find the prize stallions that would be put out to stud.
Barley Saturday is still a big event for Cardigan today and a huge celebration of the rural life style. The streets are closed to the traffic and the streets are lined with people who come to the area of the occasion. It is the parade of the stallions through the town that is the centre of attention and people love to watch the horses do their lap around the town after being judged in the competition fields.
